A practical next step · no course required
What are you trying
to get moving?
Work out what you need first, what you can find out next, and what can wait. Your next step might be a conversation, a working tool or a funded experiment.
Leave with a plan you can use: what to do next, what it needs, what you can commit, and when to reconsider.
No account. No score. Skip anything you do not yet know.
Work through my next stepThe idea in a few sentences
You do not need to build the whole future operation before learning something useful. You do need the safety, permissions, resources and support your next action actually requires. Sometimes that means investing first; sometimes it means pausing.
Use these questions to organize your thoughts. You still need to check what is safe, allowed and worthwhile for your situation.
Recognize any of these?
Open an example if it sounds familiar, or go straight to your own situation.
“I’m not ready to approach a customer.”
A freelance designer thinks a full website and three subscriptions must come first. For a conversation about a prospective client’s existing workflow, those may not be prerequisites. Consent, an honest introduction and permission to discuss the work still matter.
A possible next step: ask one relevant person about a recent real problem. Do not promise delivery yet. Record what they said separately from what you infer. One conversation is not proof of demand.
Explore the observation lesson“We need a new system before this can work.”
A manager has budget for software but no shared account of the handover failure. Observe the current work first where permitted. Include staff time, migration, support and exit costs in any trial, not just the subscription.
A possible next step: review one handover with its owner. If a tool really is the constraint, agree a bounded trial and what would justify wider investment.
Open the existing tool worksheet“We have to invest before we can test anything.”
A funded research team needs specialized equipment to make a valid measurement. A customer conversation cannot replace that measurement. Equipment may be a genuine prerequisite.
A possible next step: verify technical suitability, approvals, grant conditions and capacity for setup, maintenance and interpretation. Compare shared access, rental or purchase only where they can produce valid evidence. A supported purchase may be the right choice.
Explore the constraint lessonYour working plan
A sentence or two is enough. It doesn’t need to sound polished, and “I don’t know yet” is a useful answer.
Your notes stay in this page’s memory. We do not send or save them. Refreshing or closing loses them unless you download a copy. Hosting may record ordinary page visits; see privacy details. Avoid names, confidential records and sensitive details.
Clear everything entered in this page? Download a copy first if you want to keep it.
Save or reopen your plan
Unfinished notes are fine. This downloads an editable file to your device. Nothing is saved automatically; save again after making changes.
Open a plan you saved
Choose the file from Save to continue later. It opens only in this page and is not uploaded. The file name ends in .json; a readable text copy cannot be reopened here.
This will replace your current notes. Save to continue later first if you want to keep them.
01 / What you want to do
What would you like to make happen?
Start wherever you are. You can change your answers as you go, or jump to any section.
No autosave. Notes stay in this page and are not sent to us. Refreshing or closing loses them unless you choose Save to continue later. Avoid names, confidential records and sensitive details. Privacy details.
Already have this clear?
Keep it brief and move on. This is not a business plan or a test you must pass.
02 / What you need first
What do you think needs to happen first?
Some things are needed now; others may only matter later. Keep anything you are unsure about on the list until you can check it.
What makes it necessary now? Note where you checked, or who can confirm it.
How could you find out? Note which action needs to wait for the answer.
What if I really do need to invest first?
An experiment may need equipment, specialist work or a long funded runway before it yields evidence. Identify why that commitment is necessary, who supports it and what limits or review conditions apply. The goal is an adequately supported step, not the cheapest possible one.
03 / What to try or check
What could you do next that would tell you something useful?
You might talk to someone, watch the work, run an experiment or check whether something is possible. A sale is only one kind of useful result.
Keep your original idea, revise it, or make the next step a check or a pause. This is the same next step you entered earlier: changes here update it everywhere. Anything unresolved still needs checking before the affected action.
What could you observe or measure that might change your mind?
Include the time, money and help you need, what is available, and how much you can commit. Remember ongoing work and the cost of stopping.
Help me think through the costs
Allow for setup, subscriptions, maintenance, people’s time, support and stopping or changing course. A funded experiment may need substantial investment first. Choose a commitment the available funding and support can carry.
Check permissions, safety, privacy, effects on other people, and any contractual or funding conditions before the affected action.
What would make you continue, change the plan, invest, pause or stop?
04 / Your plan
Your next-step plan
These are your notes, ready to use or change. Empty answers stay marked “Not yet recorded.” This plan does not confirm that an action is safe or approved.
Use Save to continue later to reopen and edit your notes here, even if the plan is unfinished. Download a readable copy gives you a text file for reading or sharing. Both contain your notes; choose carefully where to keep or share them.
Coming back? Add what happened
You can leave with your plan now. When you have tried or checked something, open this section to compare what happened with what you expected.
Record what they said, not your interpretation. A report is not the same as something you observed yourself.
Separate your interpretation from what you saw or heard. What else might explain it, and what would help you check?
Your older saved plan used one box for both. Nothing has been classified for you. Keep this original, or separate it into the two boxes above before clearing it.
Save again after editing to keep the latest version. A pause or stop can be a useful result.
